A Love Affair

I stumbled upon this pin a long time ago and it just made me start thinking. In fact my description on the pin was, "Oh the design wheels are turning."

A few months later I showed my husband my pin and told him I wanted to make a raindrop quilt of some sort. Gave him a couple of days and he came up with this sketch.

A couple weeks later I came up with this!

This is Gray Skies. And it is everything I dreamed it would be.

I've been waiting and waiting to show this to you! I'm so excited to launch my new line of PATTERNS!! The first in this line was well worth the wait I think.

It was a vision for quite some time, but it finally all came together. And what better way to celebrate a ginormus project completed than to have a GIVE-A-WAY!?

Sewing weekend/week was a huge success as usual. Katie and I had a great time. Maybe one day sewing weekend will involve more people than just the two of us. Maybe one day it will become Sewing retreat!

We made a couple of these beauties and they actually were very helpful in our Gray Skies undertaking (you get to see that later this week!!)

Now all I want to do is make some coordinating pins to go with it.

So nice to not have pins all over my floor now. Well, really they are still all over the place, but now I actually want pick them up.

I'll be teaching a class on these babies at The Quilt Barn on November 3, 2011. I can't wait. Teaching a crafty class at my favorite place. Yeah I'm in heaven!!

Brady just started school again. Yeah for only just over a year left to a masters degree, but not so yeah for a busy husband.

It looks like my evenings just opened up. Wide open!!

Limited Edition iPod Sweater

I stayed up much later than normal last night creating this little beauty. I couldn't stop until it was finished.

This little iPod case is made from an up-cycled sweater with the cutest wool on the inside to keep your iPod nice and safe.

The sweater is only so big so this case is a special limited edition with only a few available. I just posted it in my shop so grab one quick!

A bag for L&M

Here's hoping L is too busy with her new baby boy M to read my blog!

L (not the same as last time.) ordered a bag and told me that she wanted me to pick everything. She wanted to have nothing to do with the design process at all!

I had a great time!

I didn't know she loved purple until I had already ordered the fabric so that was a very pleasant surprise indeed!

I did the new Boo Bear style bag for her and can I just say that it is HARD to find this color of purple. It is exactly what I had in mind, but I honestly ordered and sent back four different fabrics for this bag. I'm so glad that I finally got the right stuff at the last minute.

Thanks L for letting me make a bag for you. And thanks for your huge vote of confidence in letting me pick everything out. It was so much fun!

The ipod Case

I have an ipod.

I recently crushed said ipod.

Thus, The ipod Case.

(This one has a small whoops on it. I accidentally put the eyelet on the wrong side so I had to add another. If you would like the OOPPPS one for a great price just let me know. Also, it is more of a mustard color not so much bright yellow.)

In the interest of full disclosure I dropped and shattered the screen of our ipod a couple days after I made The Case, but I randomly was not using it. I was so mad when I picked it up and saw the nice shiny screen all cracked and chipped. I don't know if my cover would have helped the screen to not crack, but I really beat myself up for not having the ipod in there. I therefore came home and made a bunch more cases to cover the ugly spiderweb crisscrossing my screen.

(There is an eyelet on each case for your little ear buds to fit in)

These three are available now! The buckles are now on backorder so I'll list a bunch more when I get some more buckles in.

Something Old...Something New

I have a huge pile of clothes to donate. The only thing is I can't help but thinking about how cute some of the fabric is. I decided to do something about it instead of letting the two laundry baskets full of old/way to small now clothes sit in my room and clutter away.

I'm working on a tutorial/pattern for this dress, but I hate stopping to take pictures of the process. I just get way to excited to get to the finished product. So Lily will have to have a few more dresses like this just to get all the steps documented.

Lily just learned how to scoot and found herself a new hiding place. I think this girl loves fabric almost as much as I do.

Peep Toes (Black Tie)

For two years I have wanted to make peep toe shoes. For two years I could not get my mind to create what I wanted it to. Then about a week ago I was chatting with my Mom in my studio holding Lily while the boys took a nap and it hit me! It literally popped right into my head. I had to have my Mom hold Lily really fast so I could sew a sample right away before I forgot.

It worked. And yesterday I tried to make one again. Good thing I had the sample to refer to because as quickly as the idea came it left.

Say Hello to The Black Tie. The second shoe in The Lily Collection.

Yeah, collection. I could not pick one single shoe to make and name Lily so I decided to have a whole collection named after her. I guess that is one benefit to having your Mom be the designer. Downside? You also have to model.

These cute little shoes have a pleated satin T-Strap with a satin ribbon that wraps around the ankle and ties in the back. Look at those cute chubby legs! Admit it, it's way cuter than the shoes!

My little Lily makes a great foot model. Just look at how she works those shoes. Ok, honestly there was a little help from Daddy with the crossing of the feet. :)

Thanks Mom for holding Lily for that quick second. Good things always seem to pop into my head when you are around.

For some reason my site gets the most traffic on Tuesdays. I'm not exactly sure why. Do I post more on Tuesdays than other days? Are people more internet active on Tuesdays? Or is is just a random thing that no one can explain? Who knows.

Usually I wait until a project is finished to share it with you.

not this time though. I was just to excited to show you our new picnic quilt (well the top anyway).

Brady and I have been a picnicing couple from the beginning. It's something that we look forward to every spring summer and fall (darn winter!).

I have wanted to make a quilt for our special outings. Something that our kids would look at and have tons of memories from. I'm finally done. Just in time for picnic season.

My mom asked, "Well who will get this sentimental quilt when you picnicing days are over?" a nice way of saying "gone". Kind of a sad thought, but it had crossed my mind to. It would be hard to have one child have the sentimental quilt and not another.

Here's my plan. I made a few extra blocks from the quilt fabric of our special quilt. When each of my children get married I am going to make them their very own picnic quilt from fabric they have chosen for themselves. Then on the back there will be 1 block from the picnic quilt they grew up with.

And this houndstooth beauty will be arriving at my Mom's door hopefully in time for Mothers Day. My Mom and Dad would have celebrated their 30 wedding anniversary on Easter this year. I wanted to do something special for her so remind her of my Dad and let her know just what an amazing Mom she is. Her wedding colors were peach and baby blue. I found the peach, but could not find the right shade of blue. So gray it is.

Don't look at all the strings. Remember I said I was still working on these. :)

Spring Cleaning, Anniversary and Maybe A Give-A-Way

Okay okay, yes there will be a give-a-way, but back to that in a minuet.

I love spring. Spring in fact is when I first started The Vintage Clothespin. Yep, it's been 2 years this month that I sold my first pair of oven mitts. Affectionately named "The Scrappy Mitt".

Spring is my creative time. I'm not sure why. Maybe it is the warm weather, maybe the sun and all the Vitamin D. Or maybe it is just when for no reason at all my mind starts to go and does not stop.

I'm in sort of a predicament. I have so many ideas in my head right now. So many in fact that if I don't start sewing them soon I'm afraid I'll loose them. My sweet husband suggested I draw my ideas out so I don't forget them. Oh sweet husband of mine, don't you remember...I CAN'T DRAW!! That is absolutely not a talent of mine. That is also why you will NEVER see sketches of things I'm working on. I simply don't have any and just plain can't make them.

In order for me to be able to sew these new ideas I have to have a place to put the finished product. (Umm, yeah I'm out of places to store things. I even moved everything out of our linen closet and renamed it "The Vintage Clothespin Storage Center").

Here is where you come in. You lucky people you!

My Newest Addition (The Camera Bag)

Remember back when I sold my old camera?

Well, I got myself a new one and I've been thinking and thinking about the perfect design for my new camera bag.

And here it is...

I wanted a messenger style bag so I could just throw it across me when I was shooting and not have to worry about it falling off of my shoulder. I came up with this new design. Is it tacky to fall in love with your own design?

The buckles are one of my favorite parts (who am I kidding, I love the whole thing!). I looked and looked for something original and I think I found it with these little beauties.

Inside I have a liner that divides into five different sections if needed. Right now I just have it divided into four. It fits my camera, two lenses (one on camera), my charger and all the cords that go with it, as well as my little Flip camcorder.

And just incase that was not enough I have eight little pockets inside for my business cards, phone, ipod...

On the back and front (under the flap) are four pockets large enough for notebooks and fun books. There is also a pocket on each side. As if I didn't have enough!

To top everything off I put some feet on the bottom to protect my bag as well as my camera. I love them!

So that's it, The Camera Bag.

Custom Order Notice

In the short amount of time I've had my shop re-open I've already had a few requests for custom orders.

Let's face it I'm a sucker.

In light of that I've decided to take one to two custom orders (depending on the size of the orders) every month.

March and April are already full, but I'll be sure to post about any openings if they come available or if I'm feeling particularly ambitious.

If you know you are going to want something for a baby shower or your baby that is due in, I don't know, say August don't wait until the last minuet to secure your month. To see if a month is available check over here-------->

The most magical place on earth

I have a favorite place.

The place of my dreams really.

The Quilt Barn is my Disneyland!

First of all it is located in one of the cutest small towns, Kimberly ID. And I'm a sucker for small towns!

Heather has everything I ever want. Fabric from my favorite designers, a place for the kids to play, and a husband that will babysit them for me when he is there (that may be my favorite feature).

If you ever come for a visit you can rest assured that one of the stops on your vacation will be The Quilt Barn.

The Quilt Barn is where I bought the fabric to make my very first bag ever.

When I returned the next week to get some more fabric Heather saw my bag and was the first one to tell me that I MUST sell them. She introduced me to Etsy and the rest is history.

Why am I telling you this?

Today is a rainy cloudy day and I all I keep thinking is that I want to go to The Quilt Barn. The place where my dreams come true.

I just don't know how bad I want to drag all three kids there by my self, in the rain. Yeah it's worth it. Off to The Quilt Barn we go!!

The Bib

Creative name right?

Honestly no cute name could do this baby bib justice so I decided to just keep it simple. That and I could not think of a name. ;)

So here it is... a little something new for the ol' shop.

a little car somethin' for the boys

Each bib is hand pieced and machine quilted to give it that sort of vintage look. On the back is a very soft, very absorbent, terry cloth fabric.

As most things in my shop the bib was made out of pure desperation. Lily has been sporting her little bibs for the last few weeks because she has sprouted a small slobbering problem. And by small I mean the whole front of her shirt is sopping wet in a matter of minuets without some sort of protection.

So it works well even for those little cuties that aren't even eating solids yet.

All of The Bib's pictured are now for sale in my shop and ready to be shipped. Yeah for no waiting!!

My wish list

Many handmade artists have blogs.

And many handmade artist blogs have pictures of their studios.

Mine does not.

Why, you ask.

My studio while a good size is somewhat cluttered.

I do not have any sort of closet in my room and therefore no storage!! Picture fabric and supplies strewn about. that is pretty much the current condition.

After two years with The Vintage Clothespin I have come to the conclusion that my little business is not going anywhere soon and I need to create a place that feels inspiring as well as functional.

So...in my quest for the studio of my dreams I compiled a little wish list. A wish item really. Just this one thing is that too much to ask?

Not to mention storage problem SOLVED!!

Think of all the fabric, zippers, thread, trinkets, shipping supplies, glue sticks, etc. etc. I could keep in here.

I could have a drawer for each of my hand drawn designs and all of the prototypes. Oh what a dream.

I am in the process of trying to talk my Brother-in-law into making it for me. Unfortunately he is not willing to trade this beauty for the 25 or so diaper bags it would take to pay for it. One day I will have it!! I hope:)

Do any of you have storage solutions? I am up for suggestions.

My Little Miss made her official debut on November 27, 2010. She only had a three min. birthday since she was born at 11:57pm.

She is beautiful and amazing.

I could not have pictured a more perfect little girl.

I love how small they are. Each measuring only about 1 3/4". They look great alone or in a little cluster.

A little snap clip on the back makes them perfect for the babies that have both a lot or a little hair. No hair at all? Clip it to a headband for a cute little accent

I took my Nikon Camera strap off when I first got my camera about three years ago because ~~it was ugly~~ I thought it lacked in the appearance department.

Today I made this!

I love ruffles (as if you couldn't tell by now)!! and I left these ones unfinished because...

well...

it's mine and I like it that way.

I can't wait to actually put it to good use.

The Dream Sling

I'm so excited to add this new ring sling to my shop!

I searched high and low and did a ton of research to prefect this design.

The sling is made of a single layer of fabric so that it is easy to use and very breathable for baby. Want a cordinating fabric on the inside? Just ask!

Tail can be worn down or tucked around your back and under baby.

The Dream Sling is great for babies and toddlers from 6lbs. to 35lbs. There are many different ways to wear it so that baby will never get board! (Baby pictured is five months old).

The gather along the back makes this sling fit right every time! Never will all the fabric bunch together or will you be messing around trying to get it to lay flat across your back. Just a great fit everytime.

Don't know how to use a ring sling? I'll send you a link to a wonderful site with all the do's and dont's after purchase and before your sling is shipped.

You can find this one in my shop today and look for more on Monday. There is only one other sling made with this fabric, it's mine. ;) The one pictured it made of an Amy Butler fabric that is now out of print. I've had this custom order since about a week before

I found out I was pregnant!

So yeah, sickness was not my friend with this one. Thank you so much J for being so great to work around my sick slowness.

J wanted a bag made out of a fabric that ment a lot to her. She sent me the nursing cover that she used for both of her children and asked me to make a little library bag for her and her kids to enjoy.

I used EVERY scrap of fabric I could get out of that little nursing cover and here is the end result.

Thanks again J! You are such a joy and so patient to work with. I hope this bag brings you many years more of great memories with your children.

Something that will make spit-up more fashionable. Ok so wearing said spit-up on your clothing is still not recommended and is honestly NOT fashionable, but this will help in both areas. The Burpie!

Where have I been?

After a huge busy spell I decided to take a couple of weeks off. In the process my Husband got accepted to Gonzaga to start his masters degree!! We are very excited!

Classes start for him next week so I have decided to continue my vacation through next monday so that we can send some time as a family before I become a "single Mom" for the two years. ;)

Debut #4

Have you been waiting all day? I know you have! So here it is. This is made of that limited edition fabric I've been talking so much about. Honestly, I wasn't so sure about this, but my husband picked it out so what could I say. It should be no surpise to anyone that knows my husband that it turned out AMAZING! I'm in love with this bag!

There is one more diaper bag as some of you know. However I have had a bit of a hard time picking the trim for it. So it is not yet done. I'll be sure to post it when it is though.

For those of you who are a bit confused about the limited edition line let me explain a little better.

I bought a certain number of yards of these four different fabrics. I am able to make anything out of them but once the fabric is gone it's gone. :(

So if you wanted a diaperbag out of one of the fabrics you saw on the booties or the purse I would be happy to do it just let me know. Or if you want a pair of booties out of the diaperbag fabric same story. If there are still questions just email me or leave a comment.

I have had a few requests for purses from those of you who don't have a need right now for diaperbags. I could never really come up with a design that I liked though. When I saw this fabric all I could picture was this bag. So here it is...my new purse design.

This bag has an oversized look without the oversize feel. It is is just long enough to go over your shoulder and tuck nicely under your arm. It has two pockets on the inside and is lined with the same fabric that is on the outside.

So what do you think?

I have two more things to debut. Unfortunatly my little men did not have a great day today and I lost the light before I could photograph them. So guess what?! There will be another debut post tomorrow! That means even another chance to enter the contest. Yipee!!

I made this shoe in honor of my Grandma who LOVED the holidays!

Christmas was the most speical of holidays. From to the ornaments, each with one of her grandchildern pictured on them, to the english toffee, banana jazz, pumpkin rolls, and all of our presents stacked around her huge pinon Christmas trees. We loved spending our Christmas with Grandma Davis! Every year I look forward to the memories that Christmas brings.

I'm officially open again!!

I can't wait to show you all of the new stuff I have been working on!! Be sure to check my etsy site for a ton of new changing sets. Some of them are one-of-a-kind so be sure to get yours fast. At $30.00 I think they would make the best baby shower gift or even Christmas gift.

Here it is, my secret project. Ok, not so secret, but new and fun!! A couple of months ago my friend Annie told me about a carrier cover that her sister-in-law had. She thought it was great and suggested that I add them to my shop. I loved the idea! However, after researching carrier covers they all seemed to be exactly the same! They were all basically a blanket with ties to hold it onto the handle of the carrier. My whole objective here is to have something original so I kind of put the carrier cover on the back burner. Then, I got a request from a previous client to make a carrier cover for her new little baby. This lit the fire again.

So here it is... The Carrier Canopy

I'm in love with it! It has everything that I would want. In fact it makes me excited to have another baby just so I can use it. No, that was in no way an announcement!

**The Canopy is held on securely with elastic around the front and back. This will be especially useful on those windy days. No longer will you be chasing your blanket or having your little bundle of joy choke in the wind when your old carrier cover flaps in the breeze.**

**The Canopy is held onto the carrier with loops made of coordinating fabric and easily attached with Velcro. This allows you to still use the loop your arm around the handle methood of carring the car seat.**

One of my favorite features is this little "window". This makes it easy to check on your little Sleeping Beauty, or Sleeping Handsome as the case may be. Again, this is held down with Velcro.

You think I'm done don't you? I mean what else could this amazing Carrier Canopy possibly offer?!

WELL...

The Carrier Canopy is COMPLETLY REVERSIBLE!!!

Yep!! How great is that!?!

So what becomes of the velcro on the outside and the loops on the inside when you flip it?

This little button is actually attached with velcro and can be used as a cover for the piece of Velcro you are not using.

As for the loops...they become toy holders for the baby on the inside. What little one would not love that?

So there it is my new Carrier Canopy. It is a must have for the cold/flu/RSV season. Not to mention just a good thing to keep your baby out of the elements. I hope you love it as much as I do.

This is a new custom order I had. I love how it turned out! My first thought when presented with these fabrics was to put the print on the outside. But it was requested that the print be on the inside with a plain black on the exterior. How classy!! I love it! There is also a picture of the new diaper cases I started making (also a request for this order). Thanks for your order B! Let me know what you think of it!!

P.S. I don't know what it is but it looks like the blacks are not the same color. They are. I don't know how to fix it in the pictures though.

Lesley won my latest contest and these are the booties for her soon to be new little grandson! His name will be Hayden so in honor of him and his grandma the baby shoe on the left is now has a name "The Hayden Baby Shoe". What about the one on the right you ask...say hello to "The Hudson Baby Shoe". I know "The Tate Baby Shoe" is still a work in progress, but it will look much like "The Hudson" just like in real life.

I made these little booties for baby Liliana who was born just a week ago! I think they make the perfect little blessing shoe. I don't have any pictures of her to post, but she is so beautiful! She has a TON of dark long hair. Nothing is cuter than a baby with lots of hair!

A HUGE thank you to my good friend Melody. She is so talented. When I told her that I wanted something cute to ship my little booties in she told me that she would work on something. I was picturing just a plain old little box that I could tie a ribbon around or someting. This is SO much better!!

How cute do they look in this adorable box?! She even made a clear lid so you can see what is inside!

Hi everyone! I have been getting a lot of questions lately so I thought I would just answer them all in one post.

Q: "How much did you charge for that?" Meaning the little version of the Dolly Popper Bag.

A: The Alice in Wonderland bag was actually kind of expensive since all of the fabric had to be custom ordered. It cost $85.00. I would normally charge 62.00 for this bag.

Q: Are the booties fabric on the bottom too or do they have some sort of sole on them??

A: I can do either. After messing with a few different non-slip options I finally came up with a cute and functional way to do it. So when you order just specify which way you would like them.

Q: Can you do a zipper on the Dolly Popper Bag?

A: Unfortunately, I do not do zippers. I will however do a button with a loop for the closure. I will have a picture of this next week to show you.

Q: Are you currently interested in doing any consignment work?

A: At this point I am not. Things are about as busy as I dare let them get. It is something I may consider after the holiday season though. And thanks for the offer.

Q: Do you sell your patterns?

A: I am not selling my patterns as of now. I don't know if it is something I will think about in the future, but if I do I'll keep you posted.

Q: Why did you pick the names you did for all of your booties?

A: This is a fun one for me. The booties I have done so far are the names of all my nieces and nephews. "Wow, that is a big family!" is that what you are thinking. Yep, it is and I am so blessed to have them all!

Gift Certificates

I received an e-mail today asking about gift certificates. It is something I have thought about for a while. I just was not sure if people would be interested. She answered my question so I did it. So, if you are just not sure what the person you are buying for would want how about a gift certificate!

On my sidebar you will see a button to buy a gift certificate. You can choose any amount in $5.00 increments. Once you purchase the gift certificate you will be able to print it off or if you are not near the person you want to give it to you can even e-mail it to them. They then can use it to purchase anything on my etsy site. If they want to do a custom order with it that is also no problem.

The day has finaly come. The day I have been waiting for with anticipation for two months now. Today is the day that I'm going to apply to be a seller at Bijou Market in Orem, UT. I won't find out if I made it until October 1st so there is plenty of time to send some happy thoughts my way!

The cutest bag I ever saw!!

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by a lady who wanted me to make a smaller version of the Dolly Popper bag for her 2 year old to take to day care with her. She had the fabric all picked out and I just had to order it. The exterior fabric is from Japan and I am in love with it. I am thinking about ordering some more for me!! Inside the bag is Amy Butler, my favorite!! I had some left over scrapbook ribbon I got while we were in Colorado. I love this ribbon and have been saving it for something really special. I was actually sad to use it on a bag I would never see again, but it went so well that I could not resist!!

I even made Hudson try on the bag. He was not so sure!!

I know that most everyone suffers from an addiction of some kind weather it be a certain kind of food or a bad habit. Well I found yet another one of my addictions. I'm in love with making booties!! I literally can not stop! I was up until midnight (those of you who know have your jaws hanging open right now with a small gasp of disbelief knowing that I never go to bed later then 10:30!) because they are just so dang cute and lets face it addicting!!

I have literally been dreaming of booties!! I finally came up with this little girl pattern that I am in love with. This set is made from Amy butler fabric.

Please let me know what size you would like when you order.

size 1 (0-3 months) 3.25" - 3.5"

size 2 (3-6 monts) 3.5" - 3.75"

size 3 (6-9 months) 4" - 4.25"

size 4 (9-12 months) 4.25" - 4.5"

A new way to order

Here it goes...I am now all transferred over to my Etsy site and it is great!! I will still be updating this blog, but as far as ordering goes I will only be accepting orders placed on etsy now. So here are a few things to keep in mind when ordering off of my etsy site.

If you like something you see on the blog and it is not on etsy just let me know and I will do a custom post for you on etsy.
I am still doing custom orders (they are my favorite thing to do) just e-mail me with what you are looking for and we can go from there.
You do not have to have a paypal account to order off of my etsy site a credit or debit card works just fine too.
You can still leave feedback on the blog, but there is also a way to leave it on my etsy site. I would LOVE to hear from you both places, I don't even care if you say the exact same thing both times.

I love this new way to order. I have asked many of you to pay using my etsy site in the past and it is just so much easier for all of us. Not to mention that I get your payment right away and am then able to start your order much sooner then with a check in the mail. This means that you will see your order sooner. :)
